Notes:
Besides management plans, there are many other important provisions of SB1. More requirements are given for the creation and composition of priority groundwater management areas, formerly called critical areas. A priority area is any area experiencing or expected to experience within the next 25 years, critical groundwater problems such as shortages or contamination.
New provisions are also given for groundwater districts, which is still the state’s preferred method of groundwater management. Districts are now required to submit management plans which will be incorporated into the regional plans. Specific goals are included in SB1 and districts must determine what actions they will take to pursue these goals. New requirements also exist for well permits focussed on obtaining more information about wells and what they are used for.
TNRCC is responsible for presenting a report each odd-numbered year detailing the creation of districts and priority areas and reviewing the actions these areas are taking towards water conservation.
